Sunday School Teacher/Coordinator

Overview

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Sunday School Teacher/Coordinator to nurture the spiritual growth of children. This role combines teaching, leadership, and organizational skills to create a welcoming, open, accepting environment where children can explore their faith. The ideal candidate will bring enthusiasm, compassion, and a proactive approach to religious and spiritual education.

Duties

  • Create meaningful experiences during Sunday School for children to ask their questions and search for the answers together.

  • Recruit and encourage adult volunteers who support the Faith Workshop program.

  • Support special events, holiday programs, and community outreach activities.

  • Maintain accurate attendance records, manage classroom supplies, and ensure a safe, inclusive environment for all children.

  • Provide mentorship and Christian counseling to children facing personal or spiritual challenges, offering guidance rooted in faith.

  • Collaborate with parents, church staff, and community members to promote a cohesive approach to faith education and social support.

Requirements

  • Experience working with children in educational or faith-based settings; prior teaching or mentoring experience is desirable.

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate volunteers and foster teamwork within a diverse group.

  • Excellent communication skills to effectively engage children, parents, and church staff.

  • Ability to plan and organize events while managing multiple responsibilities efficiently.

Expectations

The Plymouth Church is committed to protecting children and vulnerable adults from abuse. All employees and lay leaders who work with children are expected to comply with our Safe Church Policies and regular background checks.

Hours

  • Sundays, part-time position, September to June

  • 6-10 hours/week; hours vary to meet the obligations of the position. (Hours may adjust as understanding of the position matures.)

  • Worship services are on Sundays at 10:00am.
